Manual transmissions do not require a full service, but the fluid still needs to be replaced at regular intervals. The recommended interval is every 30,000-60,000 miles, depending on year and model. Automatic Transmission

BMW and Mercedes with automatic transmission require full services which includes replacement of the transmission oil filter and the pan gasket.
